Samsung Electronics announced the PCI Express 4.0 compatible M.2 NVMe ‘990 PRO’ series SSD with heatsink which has improved random read/write performance and power efficiency from previous models. Global sales will start sequentially from October, and the capacity and price will be $179 for 1TB and $309 for 2TB. 4TB is scheduled to be introduced in 2023.
The Samsung 990 PRO is an M.2 NVMe SSD equipped with the company’s latest V-NAND 3-bit TLC and a unique controller that delivers a maximum sequential read of 7,450MB/s and a maximum sequential write of 6,900MB/s. Random read has a maximum of 1.4 million IOPS, and the same write has a maximum of 1.55 million IOPS, which is a maximum of 55% performance improvement from the conventional model.
In addition, the power efficiency of Samsung 990 PRO is improved by up to 50% compared to the conventional model. The controller part is nickel coated and heat spreader labels are used to improve heat dissipation performance. In addition, Samsung 990 PRO with heatsink equipped with a heat sink with built-in LED is also available.
The DRAM cache (LPDDR4) is 1 GB / 2 GB / 4 GB, and the TBW is 600 TB / 1,200 TB / 2,400 TB in descending order of capacity. A 5-year limited warranty is included.
