ASRock has made the motherboard W790 WS official that is especially made for the just-announced Xeon W-3400 and Xeon W-2400 series processors that are based on Sapphire Rapids.
ASRock W790 WS motherboard is compatible with the new Xeon W-3400 and W-2400 series of LGA4677 and supports up to 56 cores. It has 4-channel DDR5 memory slots, supports 8 DDR5 ECC RDIMMs configured in 2DPC, and can expand capacity up to 2TB.
ASRock W790 WS also has four PCI Express 5.0 x16 slots and one PCI Express 4.0 x16 for maximum expandability.
In addition, ASRock W790 WS has four PCI Express 5.0 x4 compatible M.2 slots Blazing M.2 NVMe SSD Sockets, inserts it into PCI Express 5.0 x16 slot and converts it to four M.2 Blazing Quad M.2 Card support. It also has one U.2 mini SAS port SFF-8643, which is said to be the ultimate storage environment.
Around the power supply, ASRock W790 WS is equipped with a 20+2 phase power supply with 90A SPS. Equipped with Nichicon capacitor 12K Black caps, server grade power choke, ultra-low loss 14-layer PCB, etc. VRM adopts aluminum fin array and active cooling by fan. The heat sink extends to the top of the rear panel I/O to improve heat dissipation.
In terms of connectivity, ASRock W790 WS has two 10 Gigabit Ethernet Marvell AQC113CS and one 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet Intel I225LM, the latter supporting Intel Active Management Technology and Intel Endpoint Management Assistant. It also has Wi-Fi 6E.
The form factor used on ASRock W790 WS motherboard is Extended ATX. Other rear interfaces include Thunderbolt 4 x 2, USB 3.1 x 2, USB 3.0 x 4, audio input and output.
