The Chinese manufacturer Lenovo, has just introduced its new Ideapad 330 cheap laptop. This new model of the manufacturer will be the first, globally, to mount an Intel Cannon Lake processor. The Intel Core i3-8121U is part of the new processors that will be manufactured using the troublesome 10nm node that Intel has been developing these years ago. It seemed that they were reluctant to go to the market, but we can already see that Intel has solved the manufacturing problems for the 10 nm node. At least enough to start manufacturing some processors of its range of laptops. However, we are scared enough that Intel has not officially introduced these new processors with Intel Cannon Lake kernel.
Another thing that scares us enough is that Intel continues to encompass these new processors within the 8th Generation Core, which is the same generation as the current Coffee Lake core processors. We do not know very well why Intel has not decided to upload the series for the Intel Cannon Lake processors when, being manufactured in the new 10 nm node, it would be normal for it to go up to the 9th Generation. Although it is also true that the Kaby Lake-G processors are included in the 8th Generation.
What we are really interested in now is the new Intel Cannon Lake processor that uses the Lenovo Ideapad 330. This new model, called Intel Core i3-8121U, is part of the series of very low power processors that Intel intends to be used in the construction of laptops. By the specifications that the manufacturer advertises, Lenovo, we know that it is a two-core processor with Hyper Threading activated, which gives it a total of four process threads.
Intel Core i3-8121U specifications – Its base frequency is 2.2 GHz, while the processor has a boost frequency that, in theory, would allow it to reach up to 3.2 GHz. We do not know anything about its consumption, but it should be less than the current Coffee Lake core processors, which are manufactured in the 14 nm node.
On the Lenovo laptop, at the moment will only be for sale in China, where the price of its cheapest version is 3,299 yuan (about 434.90 euros), while its most expensive version is 3,899 yuan (about 514 euros). These prices are before taxes. Interestingly, these new laptops do not use the integrated graphics card processor, but has an AMD Radeon RX 540 for these tasks.
