Samsung has announced the inclusion of 2TB variant for Samsung 850 Pro and Evo SSDs. Thanks to their V-chip NAND memory ( NAND 3D Vertical ), Samsung’s product line now features 20 different models with capacities ranging from 120 GB to 2 TB.
Un-Soo Kim, general manager of marketing at Samsung said
“The company has experienced high demand for its 500 GB SSDs forward since we introduced the V-NAND technology. The launch of models 2TB Samsung implies a commitment to this growing demand for higher storage capacities, and continue to expand our catalog with models better performance and greater capabilities. ”
And it’s true, the demand for devices of high capacity SSD is growing and it will continue to grow even further in coming months. Despite having a large capacity (2 TB) capacity, the new Samsung 850 Pro and 850 EVO SSD maintain 2.5-inch format while being only 7 mm thick so that they remain compatible with Ultrabooks and small form factor laptops. Samsung has had to change its internal layout to make room for the 2 TB capacity though. The company has included 128 chips in 32 layers.
Huge amount of chips are managed by MHX high performance controller as well as four 4GB LPDDR3 (Gigabit) chips manufactured with 20 nanometer process. With all this technology, Samsung ensures the operation of the 850 Pro 2 TB SSD for at least 10 years or 300 TBW (terabytes written). The 850 EVO 2TB variant has lifespan of five years or 150 TBW.
The company also announced that it will soon launch larger capacity models of 850 Pro and 850 EVO SSDs in M.2 mSATA format.
